Nude Self Portrait
| Two way mirror, relay motion sensor, nude portrait Installation 2010 Nude Self Portrait appears to be an elaborately framed famous nude painting. The flirtatious image of a nude female entices the viewer for a closer look. Upon closer inspection a motion sensor responds to the approaching viewer. Assumably part of the gallery security system, this motion sensor goes unnoticed by the viewer yet is a crucial part of the work. This sensor is rigged to work in reverse. When motion is sensed it turns off the lights that are illuminating the painting. This allows the two way mirror to block out the image of the nude and reveal only the approaching viewer. The viewer is left staring at their own image. |
